Every piece published on M2 Magazine goes through a defined editorial process. This page explains how we commission, research, write, edit, and correct our work. It also explains what we will and will not publish.
We hold ourselves to these standards publicly because transparency is part of good journalism.
Our Editorial Mission
M2 Magazine publishes long-form journalism, investigative reports, and editorial commentary. We cover technology, culture, economics, geopolitics, and more.
Our standard is simple: every piece must leave the reader with a clearer understanding of the world than they had before reading it. If it does not clear that bar, it does not get published.
Who Commissions Our Content
All content is commissioned or approved by our editorial team. We do not accept unsolicited finished articles for direct publication. If you have a story idea or want to pitch a piece, contact our editors first.
Commissioned writers receive a clear brief that includes the angle, expected depth, target audience, and word count. Writers work within that brief and flag any significant changes before submission.
Research and Sourcing Standards
Primary Sources First
We rely on primary sources wherever possible. That means original documents, direct interviews, official data, peer-reviewed research, and on-the-record statements. Secondary sources are used to add context, not to replace direct reporting.
Minimum Source Requirement
No factual claim goes into a published piece without at least one verifiable source. Claims that rely on a single source are clearly flagged. Contested facts are presented as contested, with the relevant perspectives explained.
Anonymous Sources
We use anonymous sources only when the information is significant, the source has direct knowledge, and there is no other way to obtain the information on the record. When we use an anonymous source, we describe their role in enough detail for readers to assess their credibility.
Data and Statistics
We cite the origin of every statistic we use. We do not round figures in ways that distort their meaning. If data is from a third party, we link to the original source so readers can verify it themselves.
The Editing Process
Every piece goes through at least two rounds of editing before publication.
- Structural edit: the editor reviews the argument, structure, and evidence. Does the piece make a clear case? Is every claim supported? Does the order of information serve the reader?
- Line edit: the editor refines language, improves clarity, and removes unnecessary words. The goal is to make the writing as clear and direct as possible without changing the writer’s voice.
- Fact-check: key facts, names, dates, statistics, and quotes are verified against primary sources before publication.
- Final read: the editor or a second reader reviews the finished piece for errors, tone, and accuracy.
Writers receive all editorial changes before publication and can raise concerns. If a writer and editor disagree, the matter is escalated to the editor-in-chief.
What We Will and Will Not Publish
We Publish
- Evidence-based analysis, even when it challenges mainstream views
- Stories that are underreported but important
- Perspectives that deserve a platform based on the quality of their evidence and argument
- Investigations into institutional failures, regardless of who is involved
- Opinion and commentary, clearly labelled as such
We Do Not Publish
- Content that is factually unverified or relies on speculation presented as fact
- Personal attacks that are not based on documented actions or statements
- Hate speech, discriminatory content, or content that incites harm
- Advertiser-influenced content or paid editorial
- If the headline does not accurately represent the piece, it gets rewritten
Opinion and Clearly Labelled Commentary
M2 Magazine publishes opinion pieces and editorial commentary. These are always clearly labelled as opinion or analysis. Opinion pieces represent the views of the author, not the publication, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
We commission opinion from writers with direct expertise or experience relevant to the topic. We do not commission opinion purely on the basis of a well-known name.
Sponsored Content and Advertising
M2 Magazine does not accept sponsored content or native advertising. Advertisers have no influence over our editorial decisions. No article is commissioned, shaped, withheld, or altered because of advertiser relationships.
If we ever introduce sponsored content in the future, it will be clearly labelled as such and kept entirely separate from editorial work.
Conflicts of Interest
Writers and editors are required to disclose any personal, financial, or professional relationship with the subjects they cover. Disclosed conflicts are assessed by the editor-in-chief. In most cases, the piece is reassigned to a writer without that conflict.
We do not accept free products, travel, hospitality, or other gifts from organisations we cover.
Corrections Policy
We correct errors quickly and transparently. When a factual error is identified, we:
- Update the article as soon as the correction is verified
- Add a correction note at the top or bottom of the article explaining what was wrong and what the correct information is
- Do not delete or quietly alter content without a correction note
Corrections are permanent. We do not remove correction notes after a period of time.
To report an error, email m2magazineofficial@gmail.com with the article title, the error, and the correct information. We aim to respond within 3 business days.
Right of Reply
If a person or organisation is the subject of significant criticism in a piece, we give them a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication. Their response, or their decision not to respond, is included in the piece.
Subjects of correction also have the right to respond. If we correct something that affects them, we will let them know.
Takedown Requests
We do not remove published journalism on request unless there is a clear legal reason to do so, such as a court order or a confirmed factual error that makes the piece misleading in its current form.
Requests to remove articles for reputational reasons, commercial reasons, or because the subject changed their mind are declined. Journalism is not a press release and cannot be unpublished on demand.
Complaints Process
If you believe we have breached our editorial standards, you can raise a formal complaint. Here is how:
- Email us with the article title, the specific concern, and the relevant section of this policy you believe we have breached
- We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days
- We will provide a full response within 20 business days
- If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may escalate the matter to the relevant press regulator
Send complaints to: m2magazineofficial@gmail.com
